Reflection on Teach Like a Pirate Day

Yesterday, September 12, 2014, Pinewood teachers set off on an adventure called Teach Like a Pirate Day. As a staff we read a book this summer by Dave Burgess, Teach Like a Pirate. One of the main ideas presented in this book was, If students did not have to come to your class would they still show up? For our staff that was a very thought provoking question. So on Friday we decided to offer a variety of experiences to our 3rd-6th grade students and let them plan their day. The students and teachers were amazing. Students were so excited and interested in each of their experiences and behavior was great all day. Teachers took risks and tried a variety of lessons to ensure students found fun and excitement throughout the day.

Take a few minutes to see the pictures and videos from yesterday they do a much better job illustrating the day than my words do.
